The Beach Soccer tournament is jointly organized by the Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) for Malaita’s Ward 16 and Minister for Women, Youths, and Sports Preston Billy together with a Local Organising Committee (LOC). Encroaching waters have eaten away at traditional food gardens and homes. In more recent years, however, it has gained attention for bearing the brunt of sea-level rise and coastal erosion. Kwai has long been known for its white, sandy beaches. Kwai Island in East Malaita, Solomon Islands has attracted 20 teams around Malaita who graced the sandy beaches at the inaugural Kwai Beach Soccer championship yesterday.
